The Macon County Board of Education unanimously voted to appoint Sarah Holbrooks the new principal of Highlands School at the July monthly meeting.

Holbrooks, who has been serving as the vice principal, steps into her new role with the retirement of current principal Brian Jetter. The departure of Principal Brian Jetter, who has been an instrumental force in shaping Highlands School’s success, says the MC BOE board, comes as he announces his retirement.

“Under his guidance, the school reached remarkable heights in academics, extracurricular activities, and community engagement,” said MC BOE Chairman Jim Breedlove.

Holbrooks’ appointment marks a new chapter for the school.

“Sarah Holbrooks’ dedication and commitment to the educational growth and well-being of the students have made her a highly regarded figure within the Highlands School community. Throughout her tenure as vice principal, she has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills, fostering a nurturing and inclusive learning environment that has garnered admiration from both students and colleagues,” said Chairman Breedlove. “With over a decade of experience in the education sector, Holbrooks brings a wealth of expertise to her new position. Her passion for student success, combined with her innovative approach to education, has not only elevated academic standards but has also encouraged students to explore their full potential beyond the classroom.”

Holbrooks said she looks forward to serving the students, teachers and families of Highlands School in her new capacity.

“I feel blessed to have the opportunity to lead Highlands School as the Principal,” she said on Tuesday. “I feel my last five years as vice principal at Highlands School and my eight years of classroom experience before that has given me the experience needed to transition from vice principal to principal. Highlands School is such a special school in a wonderful community.”
