People lined Main Street to celebrate the Highlands Olde Mountain Christmas Parade on a drizzly Dec. 2 cheering on over 60 floats as they passed by on floats tossing candy to children.

“The turnout exceeded our expectations, despite the weather conditions,” said Kaye McHan, executive director of the Highlands Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Center. “Numerous businesses and organizations put tremendous effort into their parade entries, and we are grateful for the overwhelming support from the community, as people braved the mist and rain to cheer on the participants.”

The Chamber introduced a new staging pattern this year that McHan said significantly enhanced the overall flow, making it one of the smoothest parades to date.

Despite the rain, McHan said the number of floats was only slightly less than year’s total.
“While some entries withdrew due to the weather, the majority of participants adapted by donning hats or ponchos, showcasing their resilience and determination to be part of the cherished Highlands Christmas tradition,” she said.

Kids dressed as Transformers and would lay down in car formation, then upon command would spring up to robot formation. Pretty awesome.
The parade featured several annual favorites including a dance performance by the ladies of the Mountain Garden Club, a giant shark representing Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team, and of course a visit from Santa and Mrs. Clause.

“The Parade serves as a unifying force in our community, bringing together family, friends, and neighbors,” said McHan. “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated volunteers, enthusiastic participants, and the supportive spectators who collectively contributed to making this event truly magical!”
