Lady Highlanders kick off season 2-0

Highlands girls varsity basketball team began the season last week facing off against Rabun County at home and won a close game ending with a final of 53-47.

Highlands Coach Brett Lamb said the opener against Rabun County was a great test to begin the season.

“We led for the majority of the game and then fell behind late but were able to find a way to pull out the win,” he said. “They have a great coach and have been a powerhouse program in their regions and state. So, to get a win over them is huge.”

Highlands Charlotte Westendorf scored 15 points against Rabun, Jordyn Borino scored 14 points and 5 assists, AE Woods scored 6 points, Aislynn Wyatt-Luck scored 5 points, 5 assists, and had 5 steals.

Highlands Hunter Conner scored 10 points, snagged 15 rebounds, and had 10 blocked shots against Rabun.

“I feel we are off to a good start,” siad Lamb. “Our pressure defense and up-tempo pace has helped us get the games going to our advantage. I also think this team is very unselfish and is playing well as a team.”

The Lady Highlanders hosted Rosman on Monday and won a solid victory ending with a final of 50-17.

High scorers for Highlands include Jordyn Borino 15 points, Aislynn Wyatt-Luck 12 points, Charlotte Westendorf 7 points, Hunter Conner 7 points and 6 rebounds, and Lillian Rutter scoring 2 points.
