Lady Highlanders lose to Hiwassee Dam

Highlands girls varsity basketball team hit the road on Feb. 4 to take on Hiwassee Dam and lost 55-32.

“We played okay in the first half, then a rough 3rd quarter got us in a hole that we could not come back from,” said Highlands Coach Brett Lamb.

Highlands Hunter Conner racked up 9 blocks against Swain at home.

Highlands stats against Hiwassee include Hunter Conner scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds, Charlotte Westendorf snagging 8 rebounds and scoring 3 points, AE Woods scored 6 points, Aislynn Wyatt-Luck scored 5 points and Jordyn Borino scored 5 points.

The loss ends a three-game winning streak for the Lady Highlanders that includes wins against  Summit, Swain, and Blue Ridge.

“When we have been successful it starts with good pressure defense and rebounding,” said Lamb. “In the games we have done those things well, we have been successful.”

In the game against Swain on Jan. 27, Highlands Jordyn Borino scored 17 points and had 6 rebounds; Aislynn Wyatt Luck scored 9 points and had 7 rebounds, and Hunter Conner scored 12 points, snagged 8 rebounds, and had 9 blocks.

Highlands hosts Blue Ridge tonight and also celebrates Senior Night. Varsity girls begin at 6 p.m., with seniors being recognized between games.
