  • The Bascom’s Photography Club Meeting: In celebration of The Bascom’s current exhibit in partnership with the Highlands Historical Society, George Masa: Iconic Vistas of Highlands, Highlands Historical Society archivist, Ran Shaffner, will be speaking from 5:30-7 p.m. in the gallery about Masa’s life and work. This special opportunity is open to the public. Seating will be limited. The event is free.

Friday Night Live season begins this week with a performance by Silly Ridge RoundUp.

  • Friday Night Live from 6-8 p.m. each week at Town Square in Highlands sponsored by the Highlands Chamber of Commerce. This week features a performance by Silly Ridge RoundUp.

  • HCLT Nature Exploration: Dixon Woods Park Experience from 2-4 p.m. on May 18. Come to Dixon Woods Park and explore the network of easy trails. Then stop by the pond to learn about the pond life that can be found there! Kid-friendly science experience and learning. Click HERE for more info.
  • Plateau Greenway: The Highlands Plateau Greenway will conduct its monthly work day on the Greenway Trail from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 18. If you are interested in participating, please email highlandsgreenway@nctv.com or leave a message at 828-482-2346. We’ll meet at the large upper parking lot behind the Recreation Center at 9 a.m. for a brief orientation session, and you will be furnished with the necessary tools and safety equipment.

The Twilight 5K Race is at 6 p.m. on August 17 at the Kelsey Hutchinson Founders Park.

  • Twilight 5K: The Twilight 5K Race is at 6 p.m. on August 17 at the Kelsey Hutchinson Founders Park in Highlands, N.C. The course is undulating, beginners or walkers will find it friendly, yet the faster runners will be challenged. Parking will be available around the Kelsey Hutchinson Founders park.

  • Four Seasons Compassion for Life will be leading a grief support group at First Presbyterian Church in Highlands on alternating Thursdays 10:30-11:30 a.m. This will be a closed group due to the nature of the group unless there are special circumstances that keep an individual from coming to the first meeting.
