Blue Ridge boys varsity basketball team has rough night on the court against Hiwassee Dam

It was not a good showing for Blue Ridge boys varsity basketball team at home against Hiwassee Dam on Friday with a final score of 50-24.

There were several parts of the game that deviated from the norm for the Bobcats. For starters, Blue Ridge did not score a basket until over halfway through the second period.

Fans from both sides objected to the calls from the referees throughout the entire game. The referees spent minutes of time discussing calls among themselves only to leave fans confused and frustrated with their final decisions. Eventually, Blue Ridge Head Coach Nick Pressler was ejected from the game for asking a referee to clarify a call.

Carter Ferrin was added to Blue Ridge’s roster and played his first game on Friday night without attending any practices beforehand.

“I talked with coach and the guys on the team and they let me give it a try and see how it goes,” said Ferrin.

Ferrin’s presence may not have helped the Bobcats pull off the win, but it got to a point where Blue Ridge only had three players on the floor because everyone else had fouled out, Ferrin was one of them.

Blue Ridge Mason Baumgarner caught a shot to the face and had a bloody nose that put him out for a minute or two to stop the bleeding.

Editor’s Note: This photo is not unique because Blue Ridge Levi Taylor was on a fast break when he caught some contact and was sent to the line. It’s unique because this was a setup for a perfect slam dunk in the making. I knew it and scrambled to my corner as soon as I saw it coming. Taylor knew it as well and you can see the disappointment on his face over getting fouled.

This was a common scene throughout Friday’s game as referees discussed several calls in front of an already heated crowd.
