The Town of Highlands hired Officer John Cherry for the position of Code/Animal Control Officer. Cherry began his second tour in Highlands on Feb. 7, 2019.
Officer Cherry returns to the Highlands Police Department after an original tour from 2005-2010, where he was assigned as the first K9 Handler for retired K9, Ruby (HPD’s 1st ever K9). Cherry then took a deployment to Afghanistan from 2010-11 as an explosives K9 handler and returned to the States in 2011, where he trained other explosive K-9’s and handlers until his return to Macon County.
