Rick Trevathan, member of the Rotary Club of Highlands, introduced Holly Jones, who was the featured speaker at the meeting of the Rotary Club of Highlands on Feb. 19. Jones, a member of the North Carolina Department of Justice, Public Protection Section, discussed “Identity Theft & Common Scams and Frauds.” She reviewed the most common types and causes of identity theft, as well as explained the most active online scams and frauds. The most important takeaway from her talk was to place a security freeze on your account at the three main credit bureaus which can be easily done through the North Carolina Department of Justice website, www.ncdoj.gov, as well as checking your credit report annually.
