Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust (HCLT) gets a hand from the kids at the Boys and Girls Club of the Plateau, who came out to HCLT’s McKinney Meadow in Cashiers on a sunny April afternoon to help plant flowers in the meadow.
Kids from the Boys and Girls Club of the Plateau helped the Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust plant flowers at McKinney Meadow.
The kids raked small patches of land where they planted purple coneflower seeds and dug holes in the sopping wet area of the meadow where they planted swamp milkweeds (provided by Chattooga Gardens). HCLT plans to continue these efforts to plant native flowering plants in the meadow, which will create a colorful greenspace and attract native bees, butterflies and many other types of pollinators that are so important to our local ecosystem.
