Summit Charter School’s middle school chorus traveled to Simpsonville, S.C. on April 11 to participate in a statewide competition. They performed two songs, “The Water is Wide” by Ruth Elaine Schram and “The Drunken Sailor” by Emily Crocker, as well as sight-reading, which is the reading and performing of a piece of music that the chorus had not seen before.
The chorus earned high marks at the competition, securing one superior rating and two excellent ratings. Superior is the highest possible rating, followed by excellent.
“These kids should make the Summit community very proud,” said Choral Director Jesse Loyd. “This was our first contest judged in South Carolina and it went very well. They performed awesome on stage, receiving one superior rating and two excellent ratings and in the largest performance hall they have ever seen. I can’t wait to see how well they do at Carowinds in May.”
Next month the Summit chorus will travel to Charlotte, where they will perform at the Carowinds amusement park.
“We also want to thank the Rotary Club of Cashiers,” said Loyd. “They have fueled this program for the past two years with an annual grant. We would not have a chorus without them. Thank you, rotarians!”
