The 7th Annual Rotary Club of Highlands Twilight 5K happens tonight at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park.
Race Director Derek Taylor said Rotary holds this event each year to raise money for programs involving youth activity.
This year proceeds go towards supporting the Advanced Highlands Education Committee’s project of installing ActivPanels in classrooms throughout Highlands School. Taylor said the success of the Twilight 5K is due to the continual support from the community year after year.
“This is our 7th year because every facet of the community, including churches, clubs, visitors, homeowners, runners, and families all come out to support it,” said Taylor. “That’s why it works so well, everyone gets behind it.”

Rotary Club of Highlands Twilight 5K race happens tonight at 6 p.m. at Kelsey Hutchinson Founders Park in support of Highlands School.
The Club has previously helped fund the track at Highlands School and establish a swim team, and last year they donated approx. $25,000 to the Counseling and Psychotherapy Center of Highlands.
This year Twilight 5K includes a 10K race. Taylor said the route runs up and down Big Bear Pen Mountain and said it was added because some of the more experienced runners wanted the challenge. Runners must be over 15 years old to participate in the 10K.
The race begins at 6 p.m. at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park. Check in and registration begin at 4 p.m. High Five will perform from 6-10 p.m.
