Highlands Middle School soccer team defends home turf against Swain

Highlands Middle School soccer team came out ready to play on Thursday at home and took on Swain ending with a final of 9-1, which includes hat tricks from Highlands Landon Green and Henry Lopez.

“We did pretty good,” said Green. “We had good passes and we worked well as a team. I wish we wouldn’t have missed so many shots though.”

Oftentimes acting as Highlands’ goalie, Luke Ramos got to test his legs outside of the box on Thursday.“We did fantastic, especially with our passes and controlling the ball.” said Ramos. “Once we have a lead like we did, we try to make sure the younger guys get action with the ball.”

Highlands Luke Ramos got a chance to play outside of the box as midfielder and scored against Swain.

Highlands Peyton Naron said they played well, but there’s a lot of kinks that need to be worked out.

“I think we did pretty good, but at the same time I could have done a lot better on offense as midfielder.” said Naron. “It’s good when we have a lead like that so we can get as many different people in as we can at as many positions as possible so they can play them when we need it.”

Highlands Isaiah Vilardo said Swain did some things well that were a challenge to shut down, but things just came together for the Highlanders.

“They had good passing and they sent it up the field well, but so did we, and we ended up winning,” said Vilardo.

Highlands next plays at 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 16 at home against Tallulah falls.

Highlands Gavin Smalls was a machine on defense and a big factor in holding Swain to one goal.
