Highlands girls varsity basketball team loses to Franklin at home

It wasn’t the Lady Highlanders varsity basketball team’s night when Franklin’s Lady Panthers came to town on Nov. 30 and ended up winning 60-49.

On the bright side of the night, Highlands Kedra McCall was honored with a trophy ball for her achievements during her four years of playing volleyball in Highlands.

Highlands Varsity Volleyball Coach Katy Postell said players earn a ball in the trophy case when they break records or exceed milestones, such as breaking over 1,000 digs. The trophy case is located in the entryway of the new gym.

“It’s everything she does,” said Postell. “It’s defense, it’s offense, it’s passing, it’s just Kedra. It’s the most kills of anyone as far as our records go back, and it’s definitely the most since I’ve been here.”

Postell added that in the three years she has coached McCall, they may not have always agreed, but they always figured things out and ended up on the same page.

“Every coach she’s ever had would say she is second to none,” said Postell. “She never does anything halfway.”

Highlands next plays away against Robbinsville at 6 p.m. on Dec. 11.
