BREC girls varsity basketball team decimates Victory Christian

Blue Ridge Early College girls varsity team hosted Victory Christian on Thursday and dominated the court winning 71-5.

After a holiday hiatus, Coach Tim Mayse the girls played great coming off a long break.

“I thought they played well after having so many days in between our last game,” said Mayse. “We were able to execute on offense and defense. Everyone got a lot of playing time and we were able to use this game as a practice for tonight’s game with Rosman.”

BREC Hannah Carbone makes a layup against Victory Christian at home.

Mayse added that tonight’s Homecoming game against Rosman will be a tough one and taking the win will be a challenge.

“Rosman is an athletic team that is well coached, and they want to put pressure on you at all times,” he said. “They like to run and push the pace. They are similar to us in our need to push the ball up the floor to create scoring opportunities. We are going to have to very play well to beat them.”

BREC Brenda Martinez pulls up to shoot the short jump shot.

The Lady Bobcats are 10-1, lost to Cherokee, and Mayse said they’re going to have to work hard to keep up the wins coming.

“We know we have tough teams left on our schedule, and we will have to continue to improve to compete with those teams,” said Mayse. “I feel very confident in our ability to play with anyone, and I’m proud of how hard the girls practice and play. They are a fun group to coach.”
