N.C. Governor urges cancelling gatherings of over 100 people

Below is a letter from Town of Highlands Mayor Pat Taylor sent to the Board of Commissioners earlier this evening:

The governor and his staff just completed a conference call with mayors and county officials. As you know, Governor Roy Cooper has declared a state of emergency concerning the corona virus.

The governor and the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Mandi Cowen, have stated that mass gatherings of over one hundred people or more should not take place.

Therefore, if there are any planned events where over 100 people could attend, those events should be cancelled.

The governor also stressed that from state agencies to the local level, county emergency services and departments of public health will be the coordinating agencies for this state of emergency.

The governor and his staff will be providing more information as soon as possible.
