Spotlight on Highlands School Seniors

Editor’s Note: Over the next week or so, Plateau Daily News will highlight seniors to recognize their time at Highlands School. Today’s spotlighted seniors include Morgan Olvera, Dillon Schmitt, Carlos Soto Torres, and Marilyn Valerio.

Morgan Olvera

Morgan Olvera

Morgan was involved in Interact Club, Beta Club, SGA, and Volleyball during my years at Highlands School.”

College: Morgan plans on attending North Carolina State University in the fall.

Major: Morgan plans to major in Sport Management and minor in Communications.”

Shoutout: “My favorite memories were made in the classrooms of Mrs. Ford and Coach Green, the Boston trip, and my trip to Peru with the best kind of people.”

Favorite Covid-19 activity: “Watching Netflix and movies while also getting back to reading new books.”

Dillon Schmitt

Dillon Schmitt

Dillon was involved in basketball for 4 years, soccer for 4 years, and golf for his Junior and Senior years.

Future Plans: Dillon will be attending the Georgia Public Safety Training Center (GPSTC) and will be getting NPQ Pro Board firefighter certification.

Favorite Covid-19 activity: “I have been working and fishing a lot.”

Carlos Soto Torres

Carlos Soto Torres

Carlos was active with the North Carolina vocational rehab program; through this program he has had an internship with Old Edwards Inn.

Future Plans: “I have decided to continue working on laundry.” Carlos will also continue his passion with animation and technology.

Favorite Memory: “The Highlands battle cry that we performed at the Pep Rallies and our cheerleaders”

Favorite Food: Carlos loves anything sweet!

Favorite Covid-19 activity: “Playing video games and watching movies”

Marilyn Valerio

Marilyn Valerio

Marilyn has been involved with cheerleading for 4 years (Captain Junior and Senior year) and was part of the Yearbook Staff for 3 years.

Future Plans: “I plan on attending East Carolina University in the fall and I am super excited!”

Major: Marilyn plans on majoring in Fashion Merchandising and Consumer Studies.

Shoutout: “I would like to shoutout to the entire Highlands School Staff, this school has truly become a home to me. Highlands School would not be the great school it is if we didn’t have all these amazing teachers and staff!”

Favorite Memory: “My favorite memory was getting the opportunity to travel with Coach P and Profe to Costa Rica and Peru! Truly an amazing experience with you both!”

Favorite Covid-19 activity: “My favorite Covid-19 activity is that I have gotten to hang out and learn more about my little sister while being stuck at home!”
