Spotlight on Highlands School Seniors

Editor’s Note: Over the next week or so, Plateau Daily News will highlight seniors to recognize their time at Highlands School. Today’s spotlighted seniors include Camren Dalton, Jeslyn Head, Jordan Powell, Taj Roman, and Bailey Schmitt.

Camren Dalton

Camren Dalton

Camren is a senior at Highlands School. She has participated in Beta Club and Interact throughout the entirety of her high school career. She has served as club president of each at one time or another.

Future Plans: “I have plans to attend NC State University in the fall.”

Major: “I plan to pursue a degree in Environmental Engineering while continuing to further my passion for visual arts.”

Camren Dalton

Favorite high school memory: “My favorite high school memory was listing our grievances against Coach Green in true American fashion.”

Favorite Covid-19 activity: “Both reading and hiking have become absolute essentials for combatting quarantine boredom.”

Jeslyn Head

Jeslyn Head

Jeslyn is a senior at Highlands School. She has been a member of SGA all 4 years, the Interact Club for 3 years, FCA for 3 years, a member of the Prom Committee, played volleyball 4 years, played basketball 3 years, played soccer 3 years, ran track 1 year, and cheered 1 year.

Future Plans: “I plan to attend Western Carolina University to study Integrated Health Sciences, as of now I hope to begin my education in Pharmaceutical studies in hopes of becoming a Pharmacist.”

Jeslyn Head

Shoutout to a High School Staff member: “I would like to give Mrs. Reed a shoutout, she never failed to put a smile on my face! I will miss seeing her in the halls and trying to get out the words, ‘Happy Wednesday’ or whatever day of the week it was, before she could. She is a constant ray of energy at Highlands School, and I will forever be grateful to have had her be such a positive person in my life.”

Favorite Covid-19 activity: “I have been able to be outside, and spend more time with my family which has been nice!!”

Jordan Powell

Jordan Powell

Jordan was involved in several Clubs/sports/activities in his high school career: Swimming for the High School swim team, swimming for the Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team, Youth Theater at the Performing Arts Center (PAC), cheerleading for Highlands High School

Future Plans: Jordan plans to pursue his pilot license while taking the next year off.

Jordan Powell

Favorite Memory: “One time I put vanilla pudding in a mayonnaise jar and ate the ‘mayonnaise’ at lunch!”

Favorite Covid-19 activity: Building a ninja warrior course with my Dad!

Taj Roman

Taj Roman

Taj is a senior at Highlands School. He has been involved with basketball from 2015-2020.

College: Appalachian State University

Future Plans: Major in Creative Writing

Shoutout to a High School Staff member: “Even though he doesn’t work at the school anymore, Coach P was my all time favorite teacher, as well as my greatest influence and inspiration to pursue writing as a career. Thank you Coach P, love you always.”

Favorite Covid-19 activity: “I have done nothing interesting in the slightest”

Bailey Schmitt

Bailey Schmitt

Bailey is a Senior at Highlands School. She has been involved with volleyball, basketball, cheer and track.

Future Plans: “I am going to Cape Fear Community College for Criminal Justice”

Favorite Covid-19 Activity: “My favorite Covid-19 activity is being in quarantine with my bestie, Gracie”
