Red, White, & Blue Ridge 5k goes virtual

The Red, White, and Blue Ridge 5k is jogging right along in 2020 as a VIRTUAL race!

While nothing beats the sound of the air horn and the excitement of race morning, this year, we will train and run separately, meet virtually on the leader board, and stay well, safe, and active together!

Together we will raise money for Blue Ridge Early College student events, together we will practice gratitude for our health, and together we will celebrate the country we are proud to call home with the Red, White, and Blue Ridge 5k VIRTUAL Race! Read last year’s article HERE.

What Does This Mean?

Instead of meeting up as a group on July 4, everyone will have the opportunity to run their own 5K on a route of their choosing sometime between June 29 and July 5.  We have dramatically reduced the entry fees and created a group price level so families or groups of 4 or more can participate for only $25.

All of the details of this virtual format can be found at the race site along with the link to registration HERE.

Registration

Online registration is now open and will close on Saturday, July 4 at 8 p.m.

Entry Fees

Adult – $10

Youth (17 years and under plus 2020 graduates) – $5

Family/Teams – $25 for groups of 4 or more. Groups must register under one “Team Name”. The group leader should register first, pick the team name and then group members may register under that same team name. There is no limit to the total amount of group members, the more the merrier!

Sponsor a Runner

This area has been hit hard by the economic realities of COVID-19 to the point some students and families may not be able to afford to participate in this event.  If you would like to sponsor a runner or family, please contact Allison Hawkins at ahawkins@jcpsmail.org to arrange a sponsorship.  Your generosity is deeply appreciated.

Courses

There is no set course for your virtual race. Pick your favorite 3.1-mile route and run it sometime during the June 29-July 5 time period (although it would be great if you run it on July 4 to celebrate the holiday). Please be sure to follow safety and traffic rules and wear bright clothing if running on roads with traffic.

Tell Us About It!

Please share your experiences and photos from your virtual run.  It not only brings our community together, but allows everyone to use their imaginations to create a fun event for themselves and their families. Please post your photos and thoughts on our Facebook Event Page.

If you’re on Instagram be sure to be sure to tag Glory Hound Events (@glory_hound_events) and use the hashtag #redwhiteandblueridge5k when posting photos of your race. We  look forward to seeing everyone’s photos and hearing about their virtual race.

Merch

We are offering a patriotic, Red, White, and Blue Ridge Buff with our race logo. This is an excellent accessory for year-round use. Not only can it be an awesome way to show your love for Blue Ridge and the USA, it is a mask, a beanie, a bandanna, a headband, a scarf, and more!! Click HERE to see a Buff (we will update the photo when our custom design is finalized) and click HERE to see a blog post about all the ways you can wear it!”

The deadline to order buffs is Thursday, June 18, which will allow us time to receive them and get them to you in time for July 4. The cost of the buff is $10 and you can order them during the online registration process.

Awards

There are two categories: Competitive and Non-Competitive.

Competitive – We will award the top 3 overall male and female male and female finishers with a free entry into the 2021 race.  You must submit your information using this online FORM and a Strava link to show your route (no less than 3.1 miles long) and time by 5 p.m. on Monday, July 6. Award winners will be notified after the results have been tabulated.

Non- Competitive – No awards will be given in this category.  This is just for fun and to support Blue Ridge Early College.

Refunds/Transfers

The event has a NO REFUND policy.

Results

Results from the Competitive division will be posted here after the information has been submitted and tabulated.
