A Scaly Mountain couple was tragically killed Saturday, May 23, in a motor vehicle accident in Mountain City, Ga.
David Head, a Corporal with the Macon County Sheriff’s Office and his wife Dawn Head, a Physical Therapist at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital were riding their Harley Davidson motorcycle in Rabun County when 22-year-old Travis Bartlett crossed over the center line. Bartlett started a chain-reaction wreck involving a total of five cars.
In addition to the deaths of Dawn and David, other drivers sustained minor injuries.
Bartlett was arrested after being treated for minor injuries and is being held at the Rabun County Detention Center on two counts of second-degree homicide by vehicle, driver failure to exercise due care and failure to maintain a lane.
Other vehicles involved in the collision were a 2017 Chevrolet Silverado, occupied by Michael Payne, 51, and Tyler Payne, 26 of Hampton, Tenn., a 2011 Kia Sorento occupied by Jessica Robinson, 41, Jerry Robinson, 69, Linda Robinson, 65, and Jerry Parker, 6 of Clayton, Ga., and a 2016 Chevrolet pickup occupied by Breanna Almeida, 25, Hanna Abercrombie, 31 of Franklin, N.C. and Blake Ashmon, 32 of Stone Mountain, Ga.
The Heads leave behind a blended family of four children, including two daughters, both of whom graduate from Highlands High School this year.
The Macon County Sheriff’s Office has started a GOFUNDME page to help all four children of David and Dawn. Click HERE to donate.
They leave behind, Jeslyn Head, 17; JD Head, 13; Erin Sanborn, 17; and Sidney Sanborn, 19.
So far, a little over $7,000 has been raised. The goal is $40,000 to be split evenly among the four children.
