Highlands Ice Skating Rink open for business

The Highlands Ice Skating Rink at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park is now taking reservations for scheduled time slots.

Highlands Rec Park Director Lester Norris said the reservations were started as a way to slow the spread of COVID-19. Skaters can make reservations online and must do so before hitting the ice.

“The reason for time slots is we are only allowed 30 on the ice at a time with the Governor’s mandates,” said Norris. “So, we don’t want a bunch of extra kids hanging around waiting to get on the ice and increasing the chances of the COVID virus being spread.”

Skaters must wear masks and cannot have any COVID-related symptoms.

Norris said skaters will have their temperatures taken before they are issued skates. They will not be allowed on the ice if they are running a fever.

“This is a learning curve, so we ask for people to be patient with the staff,” said Norris. “We want everyone to be safe and enjoy the ice rink this season and our goal is to make this happen. Thanks in advance for everyone’s cooperation.”

Cost is $5 (with or without skates). Rental skates are available, from youth size 8 through adult size 14.

Ice Rink Schedule:
Thursday 1-8 p.m.
Friday and Saturday 1- 10 p.m.
Sunday 1-5 p.m.
