Blue Ridge Early College girls varsity volleyball team celebrated winning the Smoky Mountain Conference with a trophy presentation at the Cashiers Baptist Church on Feb. 25. The Lady Bobcats went undefeated and took the conference with a 10-0 regular season record, 11-1 including two playoff games.
Teams were unable to conduct trophy presentations during the season because of pandemic restrictions and BREC Coach Cindy Fowler felt it was important to recognize the team’s accomplishments.
“I am so very proud of this group of girls, it has been an achievement in the making,” said Fowler. “Watching the girls work hard for the past 4 years and then ending their high school career with an undefeated season was just awesome. I am so thankful that we were able to be a part of the process.”
BREC Coach Carlton Fowler said at the ceremony that the Lady Bobcats set a goal, made a commitment, put in the hard work, and achieved the season they wanted.
“We were just honored enough to be able to be a part of that,” said Cindy.
This group of players has come a long way, many of them began playing volleyball together in middle school. In there first year together, they also went 10-0.
