Highlands Police investigate vehicle break-in at Lake Sequoyah Dam

Investigators with the Highlands Police Department are investigating a vehicle break-in that occurred at the Lake Sequoyah Dam on June 19.

According to a statement from the HPD, an unknown suspect broke into a light blue Toyota Avalon that was parked and left unattended near the dam.

The suspect smashed in the passenger-side front window and stole a black purse containing a wallet, jewelry, prescriptions, and various other items.

According to a victim statement given to the HPD, the owner of the vehicle had parked near the dam around 1:50 p.m., explored the dam and river area for 20-30 minutes, then returned to find the vehicle had been broken into. 

Investigators are looking for any information regarding persons or other vehicles which may have been seen parked in the area of the Lake Sequoyah Dam on Saturday, June 19 around 2 p.m. 

Anyone who has any information about this crime is asked to contact the HPD by calling 828.526.9431. 

HPD would like to remind citizens and visitors to secure their homes and vehicles by locking doors and windows when unattended.

Items of value should be secured out of sight and should never be left in a vehicle. If you see any suspicious activity around a home or vehicle, please call 911 to report as soon as it is safe to do so.
