Highlands Middle School volleyball team won the season opener against Summit with a final of 2-0 on Aug. 30 at home.
Highlands Coach Allison Hedman said the girls played well.
“The girls have been working hard on some skills during practice and that hard work showed during the game,” said Hedman.
Hedman said the team chatted after the game about things they need to work on such as transitioning off the net.
“We try to break down our strengths and weaknesses at the end of any practice or game to monitor growth and stay sharp,” she said.
Summit Coach Samantha Robinson said several of the Lady Bears are new to sports and for a first game they played well.
“I thought they did a great job getting over their stage fright,” said Robinson. “We’ve got some things to work on like serving and moving to the ball, but we’ll get there.”
Robinson said Highlands is a tough team and facing them at the start of the season was a bit of a relief, and a confidence builder.
“Overall, I’m glad they went out and did their best,” she said. “They finished strong and had smiles on their faces afterwards.”
