It was a packed house at The Literacy & Learning Center’s sold-out Celebration of Education held at Wildcat Cliffs Country Club on Oct. 17.
Celebration of Education is TL&LC’s annual fundraising gala. At this year’s event, attendees bid on silent auction items, tried their luck at wine roulette, enjoyed dinner by Wildcat Cliffs CC, participated in the live auction and paddle raise, and listened as distinguished author Patti Callahan Henry spoke on the importance of fairy tales.
“We are so incredibly thankful for everyone who came to Celebration of Education and supported us through volunteering or donations,” said TL&LC Marketing Director Jenni Edwards. “It’s through the generosity and enthusiasm of our incredible community that make The Literacy & Learning Center successful, and we wouldn’t be here without them.”
Without releasing exact figures, TL&LC Executive Director Bonnie Potts said they exceeded their fundraising goals through the incredible generosity of a supportive community.
“The proceeds from this event will support the free-educational programs for the year,” said Potts. “It’s also an important way for people to learn more about TLLC and how they can become involved as we are always looking for more volunteers.”
Henry is a New York Times Bestselling Author and the recipient of the Harper Lee Distinguished Writer of the Year and Alabama’s Distinguished Writer of the Year award. She has authored several bestselling books, including Becoming Mrs. Lewis and Surviving Savannah. Her latest book, Once Upon a Wardrobe, was released in October and can be purchased HERE.
Third-grader, Justin Ott, and fifth-grader, Miley Zagal were the guests of honor during the celebration and received the well-deserved award, Most Excellent Reading. Attendees were welcomed by these students as they read to Ben the Reading Dog at the entrance.
The event was made possible by sponsors Terry Potts from Country Club Properties; Doug Treadwell from Mountain Life Properties of Landmark; and John Lupoli from Lupoli Construction; and by many individual donors, merchants, and restauranteurs and who gave so generously to make the evening a success.
