Highlands Swimmer Finneaus Garner heads to NC Swimming Regionals

Highlands School Varsity Swim Team traveled to Rabun Gap Nagoochee School (RGNS) on Jan. 25 for a 4-way swim meet with Carolina Day School, Tri-County Early College, and host RGNS.

Represented only by freshman Finneaus Garner, who won the 50m Freestyle and the 100m Freestyle, the team finished 3rd.

Garner will swim at approximately 5:29 p.m. and 6:07 p.m. today Feb. 4) in Regionals  at the Mecklenburg Aquatics Center.

The meet will be live streamed HERE.

Garner set two Personal Records (PRs) and qualified for 1A & 2A West NC High School Regional Championships in both events — quite an accomplishment for a freshman.

Regionals will be at the Mecklenburg Aquatics Center, this Friday, February 4.

Garner is seated 14th in the 50 and 21st in the 100.

Twenty-four swimmers will be selected in each event to go to the 1A & 2A NC High School State Championships the following weekend — six from each of the three regions and the six fastest swimmers at large who did not finish in the top six of their regions.

So, to have a chance to go to States, Garner must finish in the top 12 or higher in the West Regionals in one or both of his events.
