The Blue Ridge Early College girls varsity basketball team hosted Nantahala on Jan. 26 and won a solid victory with a final of 83-27.
The Lady Bobcats have a 6-9 record, but BREC Coach Tim Mayse said he likes the improvement he’s seeing on the court.
“We started off the season a little slow, but we have been improving since Christmas Break,” said Mayse. “We just needed to find our identity and now that we have, I’ve been impressed with how we have been playing.”
He added that the fast pace that BREC plays at sometimes leads to turnovers, but that’s how the girls like to play.
“The girls are coachable and passionate about being successful,” said Mayse. “They are a gritty and competitive group. They play fast and are always looking to push the tempo.”
The Bobcats host Hiwassee Dam for BREC’s Homecoming game tonight (Feb. 4). Girls varsity begins at 6 p.m.
Mayse said Nantahala did not have a boys team this year.
