Summit School’s girls club soccer team hosted Cherokee last month and won a solid victory ending with a final of 5-0.
Summit Taylor Robinson walked away with a hat trick scoring three goals for the Bears. Summit Jazmin Barranco and Lydia Hughes scored the other 2 goals.
“The girls played great for our first game,” said Summit Coach Jeremy Robinson. “They played with great effort and created a lot of chances. These girls are really fun to coach, the team has a great vibe.”
Summit’s club team is made up of middle and high school students. Robinson said they decided to have a club team this year to work on building up both programs for the future.
“We didn’t have quite enough for an exclusive high school team, and our middle school team was also close numbers-wise,” said Robinson. “At the same time, we have a lot of talented girls and we really wanted to give them a season to play and develop.”
He added that the focus of a club team is player development; and they have spirited practices, scrimmages, and basically a lot of fun.
Summit will play a combination of middle and high school teams throughout their season.
