Center for Life Enrichment is presenting the second annual Highlands Porchfest from 1-6 p.m. on Sunday Sept. 18.
Porchfest is a free to attend, walk-around community music festival, where over 30 musicians from a variety of genres perform across town at 12 hosting venues.
Attendees will enjoy local favorites like Jay Drummonds, Spalding McIntosh, Carolina 441, and Blue Jazz.
Porchfest will also feature other regionally known musicians such as American Idol final contestant, Jerius Duncan and talented songwriters, Wooten Hill.
Returning this year by popular demand, Grammy Award Winning Songwriter, Bob Morrison will host a round table with other musicians where they will present a passionate discussion about how to write an award-winning song.
This year’s event features an exciting new addition: CLE will honor the heritage of Highlands and revive long standing traditions and memories by inviting people young and old, visitors and locals alike to a special clogging/square dancing event at Asia House (formerly Helen’s Barn).
It is important to many locals and to the Porchfest organizers at CLE to preserve the local traditions of Highlands.
Come and relive summer nights of dancing at Helen’s Barn.
CLE hopes that this event plays a small role in preserving a Highland’s tradition that is held dear in the hearts and memories of many Highlanders.
Porchfest attendees will enjoy the tunes of local traditional string bands and the strikes of the cloggers, just like the good old days.
Registration is not required.
However, pre-registration allows the Porchfest organizers to plan for what CLE hopes is a large and enthusiastic crowd.
