Highlands varsity swim team competes in Shiver Me Timbers Invitational

The Highlands Varsity Swim Team traveled to Tallulah Falls to compete in the Shiver Me Timbers Invitational on Jan. 7.

The 5 Western North Carolina Regional bound boys team of sophomore Finneaus Garner, and freshmen Aniah McKim, Conner Hughes, Paolo McRae, and Jesus Mendoza finished 4th out of 8. 

Adding their one girl freshmen Tate Wilson the combined team finished 5th of 8 against much larger teams. Wilson is in consideration for a trip to regionals. 

Garner scored 42.5 pts and a Personal Record (PR). McKim was team high scorer with 49.5 pts. Hughes finished with 45.5 pts. and a PR, McRae had 36.5 pts, Wilson (without relays to swim in) had 31 pts and Mendoza had 7 pts and 2 PRs.

Of special note, the regional bound boys 4×100 freestyle relay of McKim, Hughes, McRae and Garner finished 2nd at the meet.

The Highlanders next compete tomorrow at 1 p.m. at the Franklin Health and Fitness Center.
