Highlands varsity swim team finishes regular season, prepares for regionals

0n Friday, January 20, 2023 the Highlands Varsity Swim Team finished their regular season at Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School.

The 5 member Highlands Boys finished 3rd out of 6 teams. Overall, the team finished 5th.

Highlands entered 11 events. There were as many as 24 in each event. Highlands finished with 4 firsts and 6 seconds.

High scoring honors for Highlands were shared by sophomore Finneaus Garner and freshmen Aniah McKim, and Conner Hughes, with 55.5 pts. each.  Garner won the 100 backstroke, got 2nd in the 50 free.

McKim won the 100 breaststroke and got 2nd in the 100 free. Hughes won the 200 Individual Medley and finished 2nd in the 400 m freestyle.  The regional bound relay of Garner, McKim, Hughes and fellow freshmen Paolo McRae won the 200 medley relay and finished 2nd in the 400 freestyle relay.

McRae scored 50.5 pts with 3rd place finishes in the 200 and 400 freestyle. Freshman Tate Wilson scored 34 pts by finishing 2nd in the 50 and 400 freestyle, and freshmen Jesus Mendoza scored 21 pts with 5th and 10th place finishes in the 200 and 100 freestyle.

The Highlands Varsity Swim Team returns to action next at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center in Charlotte, NC on February 4, 2023.
