A car lands upside down after veering off the road at NC 64 and Oak Street on Saturday.
Highlands Fire & Rescue Assistant Chief Robbie Forrester said the driver was traveling towards Franklin and did not follow the curve of the road.
She crossed into the opposing lane of traffic and continued into the bank along the roadside.
Forrester said the car slid along the steep bank for an estimated 50 feet before coming to a stop upside down.
Highlands Police Chief Andrea Holland estimated the vehicle was traveling over 45 mph and the driver has been charged with Driving While Impaired.
