Blue Ridge Middle School baseball team took it to the final inning, but scored a close 14-13 win against Cullowhee in the season opener last month at home.

“I think we played pretty good for the first game, and to have several kids who’ve never played before,” said BRS Coach Travis Russell.

He added that there are some areas to improve, but things are looking good.
“We made some mental errors that will be fixed simply by playing the game. Everyone was putting the bat on the ball, and making pretty smart decisions at the plate. We had several good defensive outs. I’m proud of them.”
BRS faced off against SME later that month and ended up with a loss. The Bobcats get a second chance today when they host Smoky Mountain Elementary at 4 p.m.
