Highlands School on soft lockdown

The Highlands School administration, in coordination with the Highlands Police Department has issued a temporary soft lockdown.

We have been notified by the Sheriff of Macon County that a threat has been made to a neighboring state’s school.

Due to the close proximately of the state and the last known address of the individual making the threat, we are taking the necessary precautions to keep our Highlands School children and staff safe.

We will not allow anyone into the school until the day’s end.

Extra law enforcement and the Highlands Fire and Rescue will be stationed at and around the school until the end of the day.

We do not believe there is a threat to Highlands School; however, we take these situations serious and want to make every effort to ensure safety procedures are met.

I appreciate your understanding,

Chief Andrea Holland, Highlands Police Department
