Lady Highlanders lose to Murphy

Highlands varsity volleyball team hosted Murphy last week and lost with a final of 3-1.

Highlands Coach Kaitlin Bishop said the girls gave it their all throughout the 4-set match.

“I will say it every game, but these girls really play their hearts out,” said Bishop. “Losing the first set and then coming out in the second set and taking a win was huge, we just have to learn to keep pushing and carry momentum and not settle for just getting by.”

Highlands Claire Worley is set and ready for Murphy’s serve.

Bishop added that there are some things to work on, including the mental aspect of the game.

“We have got to work on coming out strong and getting a lead early,” she said. “We struggle getting ourselves in a hole early and then try to dig ourselves out of it. A lot of it is a mental game where we have to understand whether we are down 1 point or 8 points we still have a fighting chance, but every possession is critical.”

Following The loss to Murphy, Highlands lost to Rosman on the road 3-0.

The Lady Highlanders play tonight at home against Hiwassee Dam beginning at 5 p.m. There are no junior varsity games scheduled against Hiwassee.
