The Blue Ridge Early College boys varsity soccer team hosted Murphy on Monday and lost 3-2. After tying up the score 2-2, BREC scored on themselves during a corner kick and didn’t take the win.

“We were really flat in the first 40 minutes and it showed,” said BREC Coach Nick Pressler. “We gave up 2 goals off of corners. We played better in the second half coming back to tie the score 2-2. Unfortunately, an own goal on a corner put them back up by 1. Overall, I think we did not play to our potential. We had moments, not a complete game.”

Scoring for the Bobcats were Marcus Alcantar and Braulio Loma Iglesia. The loss comes after defeating Swain at home 2-1 on Sept. 11.

BREC Marcus Alcantar maintains possession under pressure from Murphy.

“I really still think this team is trying to figure out its identity and where all the pieces fit,” said Pressler. “It is early in the season and we are capable of working on and fixing some of the issues. We definitely need to clean up our offensive possessions and corner- kick coverage.”
