The Blue Ridge Early College boys varsity basketball team has faced off against Shining Rock twice so far this season and walked away with a win each time.

The first time they clashed on the court was on Nov. 21 at home when the Bobcats won 49-40.
“The first half we had a hard time getting in sync,” said BREC Coach Josh Holden. “We stayed ahead throughout the entire game, but it wasn’t until the second half that our offense clicked and we started getting the open looks we wanted. Our defense throughout the entire game was exactly what we wanted it to be and gave us the results we wanted Which was a lot of turnovers.”

BREC Anthony Baumgarner scored 15 points and Isaiah Palestino had 10, but Holden said it was a group effort.
“Over half of the team was on the score sheet for points,” he said. “We did not have anybody on the floor that did not score at least once.”

The Bobcats took on Shining Rock again on Dec. 3 on the road and won 43-35.

“The season is going well,” said Holden. “We are getting better each day we practice, and we gain more and more experience within game situations as we play.”
