Hundreds descended upon the Village Green in Cashiers to visit with Santa, drink hot chocolate and eat cookies to excess, listen to carolers and spend time with loved ones on Friday, Nov. 23.

Cheers erupted from the crowd of onlookers at the Cashiers Christmas Tree Lighting on Friday at The Village Green.

Families roasted marshmallows over a fire pit while listening to carolers sing Christmas songs throughout the evening tat the Cashiers Christmas Tree Lighting at The Village Green on Friday.

Ancient urban legends were put to the test by several brave souls who have seen the movie “The Christmas Story.”

Children waited patiently in line to speak with Santa concerning whether they have been naughty or nice and what their Christmas list entails.

Carolers sang to the crowd as people eagerly awaited the tree lighting.

Not everyone was all smiles before facing the big man in red, looks like someone may not be looking forward to the naughty and nice discussion.

Executive Director of The Village Green, Ann Self wished everyone present a Merry Christmas and thanked the community for its support.

The girls knew negotiations for more hot chocolate and cookies had stalled and they were going to need to take this discussion into closed session.
