Highlands boys varsity basketball team can’t keep pace with Smoky Mountain

Highlands boys varsity basketball team played Smoky Mountain on Saturday in the second day of the High School Holiday Tournament, but couldn’t close the deal losing 81-59.

Coming off of their loss to Franklin the night before, Highlands returned  to Franklin High School and came out looking good in the first quarter, often trailing within 5 points and sometimes taking the lead. Halfway through the second quarter, the Mustangs from Sylva, N.C. ran away with it.

Towards the end of the game, Highlands Head Coach Brett Lamb cycled several substitutions onto the court. Highlands had 8 unanswered points in the last 1 min. 30 sec.

Highlands next plays at 6:30 p.m. away against Murphy on Jan. 3.

Highlands varsity basketball team loses to Smoky Mountain on Saturday with a final score of 81-59. The game started well for the Highlanders but they could not maintain the intensity of Smoky Mountain.
