Happy New Year from Plateau Daily News

Editor’s Note: 2018 was a big year for me. I began Plateau Daily News about six months ago and I am overwhelmed each day by the support this community has shown me with kind words, shares, likes, etc. It makes a huge difference in spreading the word of my little operation and the word has spread faster than I could have possibly imagined, and it’s all because of you the readers.

It’s because of the readers that I do what I do. I’ve worked in journalism in both the public and private sectors for over 20 years. In my opinion, the most satisfying part of my career has been when I cover community journalism.

I love every aspect of what I’m trying to do here at Plateau Daily News, whether it’s a middle school volleyball game in Cashiers or Highlands, or a pancake breakfast in Scaly, I couldn’t be happier here on the Plateau. I sincerely thank all of my readers from the bottom of my heart for making that possible.

Here’s to an amazing 2019.

After the ball dropped on New Year’s Eve marking the end of 2018, the ice skating rink in Highlands had several late-night skaters starting their year off carving up the ice.

Some people in Highlands spent their New Year’s Eve rocking out to Roshambeaux at The Ugly Dog in Highlands, N.C.

Others spent their New Year’s Eve groovin-out at The High Dive listening to the bumping jams of DJ Bluphi.

If you’re like Buck French, owner of Buck’s Cafe in Highlands, you may have stayed up late enough to watch the ball drop on TV and then hit the sack so you can be at work at 6 a.m.
