The Summit boys and Highlands girls nabbed the top spots at last Tuesday’s cross-country meet hosted by Highlands School.

The girls from Highlands Middle School Cross Country team took first place at last Tuesday’s meet hosted by Highlands.
Summit Coach Grethcen Kapity said she couldn’t be prouder of her team.
“It is so exciting to have a possibility of winning the championship this year,” said Kapity. “It has been quite a while since we have had a strong boys cross country team. We haven’t had a strong boys team since 2016!”
Winning first place doesn’t come easy said Kapity, Summit runners put in the hours both in and out of practice.
“We have kids running on the weekends and one who is starting to come to school early to run,” said Kapity. “These boys are recognizing that they have potential to do really well and are working hard to achieve their goals. Our girls are all intrinsically motivated as well and just want to improve on their running ability. It is awesome!”
Kapity isn’t at the helm of the team alone, she added she was thankful for the assistance from Coach Orlando Buck, Summit middle school Math Teacher.
“I am so thankful to have Orlando Buck joining me coaching this year,” she said. “I took last year off because of Sava, my boy and it was challenging jumping back in this year. Coach Buck has a wonderful, positive coaching style and expertise as a runner, even having run ultra-marathons! He is an excellent addition to our coaching team and he and his wife Kelly Buck (Summit 4th-grade teacher) are amazing additions to our teaching staff! Summit is so fortunate to have them and their two daughters at our school!”
