Blue Ridge Early College varsity soccer team beat Murphy at home on Monday winning their final home game of the season, 3-1.
“They played a great game,” said BREC Coach Brittany Elkins. “The mid-field did a great job of getting the ball out wide to our forwards and we were able to connect the pieces and make some great shots in the second half. The whole wanted to (and did) give their all for the seniors last game on our home field.”
The victory was bittersweet as the Bobcats celebrated Senior Night and will be saying goodbye to five seniors.
The players graduating are Luke Breedlove, Yurem Corona, Jonathan Jennings, Julio Martinez, and Colton Taylor. After winning Monday’s game, they were recognized for their contributions to the BREC soccer program.
5 Seniors were recognized after the game:
Elkins said they played a big role this season and it’s not easy to see them move on.
“These guys all contribute to the team in different areas of the field, so we’re going to miss all of them for what they brought to the team, but we have a great group of underclassmen ready to fill their shoes,” said Elkins.
