COVID-19 vaccinations begin at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital

The first shipment of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrived and was administered at Highlands-Cashiers Hospital on Saturday, Dec. 19.

A total of 202 people received the vaccine during the four-hour clinic. This included 47 residents of Eckerd Living Center, HCH’s skilled nursing facility, and 155 frontline healthcare workers from across Mission Health.

The first to be vaccinated was Highlands-Cashiers Hospital physician, Dr. Patti Wheeler, MD.

“I am excited to begin the vaccination process to allow better care for our patients and the community,” said Dr. Wheeler. “I also look forward to getting the second vaccination and have had no side effects at all!”

Mission Health has received our first shipment of the Moderna vaccine and word of their next batch of the Pfizer vaccine. This means Mission Health will have an additional 3,000-plus doses for distribution starting next week and more shipments are expected to come.

The Mission Health team is pleased with how enthusiastic their staff has been as they work through stage 1 of vaccinating colleagues.
