Lady Bobcats varsity soccer team beats Cherokee

Blue Ridge Early College varsity girls soccer team took on Cherokee at home and won 10-1 on April 7.

The Lady Bobcats operated like a well-oiled machine on the field adding to the celebration, BREC freshman Kim Rodriguez scored her first goal of her high school career.

“I was so happy and excited I almost cried,” said Rodriguez. “We did better than the last time we played Cherokee and were not just kicking the ball around as usual. We’re playing as a team.”

Rodriguez’s cousin BREC Brenda Rodriguez said the improvement compared to the last time they played Cherokee was obvious.

“We weren’t kicking the ball around just to kick it,” said Brenda. “We played as a unit to move the ball and didn’t just feed it to the fastest player.”

BREC Sadie McLaughlin said she thought they played well.

“We were passing to set up goals,” said McLaughlin. “We need to work on crossing it and leading the passer, but we’re getting better.”
