BREC takes down Swain in tie breaker 5th set

Blue Ridge Early College varsity volleyball team won their first match of the season against Swain after winning a tie-breaking fifth set earning the Lady Bobcats a 3-2 victory at home on Aug. 24.

BREC was down 2-1 before the Lady Bobcats rallied and won the final two sets. BREC Gracie Watson said they play well under that kind of tie-breaking pressure.

“The louder and more excited we get, the better we play,” said Watson. “We have a young team and we haven’t worked together much, but over time we’ll learn each other’s style and rhythm.”

BREC Holly Foss said the season started off slow, but things will begin to pick up.

“This is great, it’s the first time we really came together and played as a team,” said BREC Holly Foss. “I think we played really well, especially against a bigger school.”

Foss added that they didn’t get much practice over the summer and have some new players, so there’s plenty to work on, but they’re committed to put in the work.

“We’re not having a terrible season, but I know we can do better,” said Foss. “After we spend some more time on the court, we’ll see some improvement.”
