At the September Board of Education meeting held in Highlands Monday, Principal Sarah Holbrooks commended Teacher-of-the-Year, HS math teacher Brian Aulisio and Support-Person of-the-Year, library media coordinator April Getz for all they do for Highlands School.
Each year, teachers and staff of MC schools vote for the Teacher-of-the-Year and the Support-Person-of-the Year. This year, Aulisio and Getz made the cut at Highlands School.
“Mr. Aulisio is an amazing math teacher. He makes math fun and engaging for all of our students. He is truly a light when he comes to school. Usually you can see him leading my small kids down in the morning to their classrooms by trumpet or you can catch him DJing at the Homecoming Dance. He truly is spectacular. He puts music into math so the kids learn rap songs to help them memorize everything they need to know for math class. He is one of a kind,” said Holbrooks.

“Ms. Getz is the one I tell people to go ask when there is something I don’t know. She does everything from tech to Ipads, to computers, to reading the kids stories to making sure my kids know what fiction and nonfiction is. She’s doing lessons, she’s integrating the classrooms into the media center. She is all things Highlands School. We are so happy that she made her way to us,” Holbrooks continued.
