The Blue Ridge Early College gym was roaring with fans’ cheers when the girls varsity volleyball team hosted Summit last week and took it to an epic tiebreaking 5th set with the Lady Bobcats taking the win 3-2.

BREC had to rally and come from behind after winning the first set but losing the following two. In a best of 5 series, the Lady Bobcats needed to win the last two sets to walk away with a victory, and that’s what they did.

“Well, when we played there we really struggled to do the little things, we beat ourselves that night,” said BREC Coach Ashley Steinel. “But this time our girls came out pumped and ready to brawl here at The Ridge. We had such high energy and drive to win in front of the home crowd.”

Steinel said the Lady Bobcats had 24 kills, 5 blocks and an 83% serve rate; but the Lady Bears responded in kind and made BREC work for the win.

“Because we are a young team we did have a fair amount of miscues but we were able to capitalize on Summits errors as well as taking numerous points from kills, aces and ball placement of our own,” she said.
