Highlands MS girls basketball team wins tough game against Blue Ridge

Highlands Middle School girls basketball team sealed the win against Blue Ridge on the road Wednesday despite a strong comeback in the second half by the Lady Bobcats. However, the final push wasn’t enough and Highlands won 33-26.

“Our girls played a tough hard-fought game,” said Highlands Coach Tim Dearth. “Blue Ridge is always a great opponent, we just had more fight in us tonight.”

Highlands came out ready to play on the road against Blue Ridge and won 33-26 on Wednesday.

Dearth added that some of the younger players were a big factor in taking the win.

“Our 6th graders really stepped up tonight to help carry us to victory,” he said.

Blue Ridge mounted a strong comeback against Highlands in the second half, but not enough to take the win.

Blue Ridge Coach James O’Berry said they lost five of their starters to the big leagues (high school) this year and the girls still on the court are working hard to fill the gaps.

“Sure, we made mistakes out there, but we’re improving every time we practice,” said O’Berry. “They played really well in the second half and we only lost our first game by 2 points. They’re coming along just fine and we’re working on the things we need to.”
