Highlands varsity girls basketball team wins close game against Hayesville

The Lady Highlanders varsity basketball team took on Hayesville at home on Monday and it came down to the final minute before Highlands pulled off the win 47-41.

Highlands Coach Jake Page said it wasn’t a pretty win, but they’ll take it.

“A win is a win,” said Page. “We let our defense down in the 3rd, but then in the 4th started executing offensively. Overall they did pretty good and I’m very proud of them.”

Highlands Julia May Schmitt said she personally wishes she played better and needs to slow things down on the court.

“I wanted to do better on offense and not play so rushed,” said Schmitt. “I need to slow down the tempo a bit and get stronger with the ball.”

Highlands next plays Cherokee on Friday at home. Games begin at 4 p.m.
