Fontana Regional Library is pleased to introduce Launchpad Learning, a new project to support literacy learning for children in Macon, Jackson, and Swain counties.
Launchpads are digital learning tablets that come preloaded with curriculum-aligned learning software. The Launchpads will be available for checkout at all Fontana Regional Library locations.
Through pre-loaded books, puzzles, games, and creative software; children can experience the advantages of ‘online’ learning without needing an internet connection. Adults also have the chance to develop digital skills through the parent-and-child-together modules that are offered on the Launchpads.
There are three main Launchpad collections. The Pre-K Academy focuses on pre-literacy skills such as language, creativity, and social skills. The Reading Academy is a 5-leveled reading program. The STEAM Academy is designed to develop skills in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
This project is made possible by funding from the federal Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.
